Gallery Talk, painter Tom Stanley

Thursday, March 11, 7 p.m., The Galleries at the Cabarrus Arts Council, 65 Union Street S, Concord. Stanley, who is chair of the Department of Fine Arts at Winthrop University, relies upon personal memory, an interest in contemporary folk art imagery, and hands- on experience as points of artistic departure. Much of his technique is based in mechanical drawing. Stanley’s work is featured in The Galleries’ exhibition, All in the Approach: Abstract, Allegorical, Analytical. Art Exhibition, All in the Approach:BR>Abstract, A - 3/11/2010
January 19-March 11, The Galleries at the Cabarrus Arts Council, 65 Union Street S, Concord. As an artist begins to explore an avenue for his vision, one of these three approaches often presents: abstraction to convey ideas through non- representation, an allegory to use symbols to tell the story or the analytical approach to separate an idea into component parts. The artists in this show use a variety of media in one or more of these approaches. Artists include Raed Al- Rawi, Susan Brenner, Alex Clark, Chris Craft, Courtney Dodd, Clark Hawgood, Chris Horney, Jennifer Kincaid, Kenn Kotara, Libby and Jim Mijanovich, Alison Overton, Mary-Ann Prack, Tom Stanley, Billie Ruth Sudduth and Tim Turner. "Spring Planting With David Goforth"

It features Walter Stanford’s Century Farms series of paintings, urban landscapes by Julyan Davis, clocks by Irene Semanchuk, birdhouses by Rolf Holmquist and place settings and teapots by Penland potters. Other artists include Robbie Barber, Bre Barnett Crowell, Barking Spider Pottery, Cynthia Decker, Nick Joerling, Suze Lindsay, Holden McCurry, Kent McLaughlin, Ken Sedberry, Ralston Fox Smith and Gay Smith.
